The 2005 Sunrise Initiative

Salinas, CA (January 5, 2005) -- The 2005 Sunrise initiative went into effect January 1, 2005. The 2005 Sunrise initiative adds support for processing EAN (EAN-8 and EAN-13) bar codes found on foreign products and which may be assigned to new domestic products. Your current U.P.C. bar codes (U.P.C.-E and U.P.C.-A) will continue to function as they have in the past as they are still valid bar codes. You may experience some problems scanning these EAN items if your POS is not 2005 Sunrise compatible. Here is a list of the most common POS devices found in the industry and whether or not they are 2005 Sunrise compatible:

If you are running an SSCS DOS-based application and you need to update your POS software, you will be required to upgrade your SSCS software to the Windows-based versions. Call your sales representative for details. Please consider time for scheduling, installing, and training on the Windows-based versions of SSCS software.
