Resolving HHT Communication Issues

Tip

Simple Strategies for Re-Establishing Communication

Sometimes when the Hand-Held Terminal (HHT) appears dormant, unresponsive or unable to transfer data, the underlying cause is a communication issue. Such issues are sometimes easy to resolve, so before contacting the SSCS support department, please try the following actions to re-establish your connection.

Warm Boot

If the HHT stops responding to input, you can re-set it by performing a warm boot. This is accomplished differently for each of the HHT models.

PDT3100

To restart the PDT3100, power off and then while holding down 4 and 5, press and release PWR, then release 4 and 5.

MC3090

To restart the MC3090, tap Start > Programs > Warm Boot.

Disconnect and Reconnect the HHT (MC3090)

When—during data communication—data is not transmitted, or transmitted data is incomplete, try resolving the issue as follows:

  1. Take the HHT out of the cradle.
  2. Disconnect the power to the cradle.
  3. Re-connect the power to the cradle.
  4. Place the HHT back in the cradle.
  5. Then...
    • If ActiveSync connects, re-attempt to transmit the data.
    • If ActiveSync is running but displays the message, "Not Connected", on the File menu, click Get Connected. Re-attempt to transmit the data.
    • If, after trying to reconnect, you still encounter a communication error, try a warm boot. Re-attempt to transmit the data.

Close and Re-Open the Application

Sometimes exiting the program (H.EXE on the PDT3100 and HHS on the MC3090) and running the program can solve communication problems.

PDT3100

  1. From the main menu, press 4 (Exit).
  2. At the DOS prompt, enter h.
  3. When the main menu displays, select the option of choice.

MC3090

  1. With the HHS displaying, on the File menu, click Exit.
  2. Double-tap the HHS shortcut on the HHT's desktop.
  3. After HHS opens again, fetch a reference file or re-send pending transactions, as needed.

If You Still Need Assistance...

Review the setup steps from the HDP6 User’s Guide and make sure they have been followed correctly. If that does not solve the problem, contact the SSCS support department.
