Identifying Fast and Slow Movers
Tip
Using the Inventory: Line Items Sales report to identify
fast and slow moving items
CDBWin helps you identify fast and slow moving items with the help of the
Inventory: Line Items Sales report which you can use as a guide to adjust your
operation's purchasing strategy. To do so:
- On the Reports
menu, click Items/Inventory > Line Items > Sales.
The following
filter window appears:

- For the purposes of identifying slow/fast movers, you may want to set up the filter
as follows:
- Select the Department
Range you wish to report on. To report on the entire
store, select the complete range.
- Select a Beginning Date from which to begin tracking sales.
- Leave the Ending Date set to the current CDBWin
shift.
- Leave the Vendor ID box blank to report on items from all
vendors.
- Leave the Location ID box blank.
- Leave the Item Group ID box blank.
- Select the Line Item Types that you wish to include in the
report:
- Inventory — Select this check box to include items
with an Inventory ID. When you
select this check box, the PLUs Only check box becomes enabled,
but only if all the other Line Item Type check boxes are cleared.
- Department — If you wish to include department sales in the
report sample, select this check box.
- Non Stock — If you wish to include nonstock sales in the
report sample, select this check box.
- Labor — C-stores wishing to identify fast and slow movers
should clear this check box.
- If the Totals Only check box is cleared, each time a unique item
(defined by an Inventory ID and Pack Size together) is recorded as sold by CDBWin, it
is represented by a unique line, meaning Inventory IDs are often repeated
and a report that can be quite long. If the Totals Only check box is
selected, all unique item sales will be grouped on an individual line. This
is a convenient way of identifying fast- and slow-moving items.
- Make sure the PLUs Only check box is cleared as you likely do not
want to limit the report to PLUs.
- Make selections from the Primary Sort and Secondary Sort boxes desired. A
Primary Sort by Department and a Secondary Sort by Quantity
may prove
most helpful if you are trying to identify fast- and slow-movers across
departments. If analyzing only one department, you may want to set your
Primary Sort as Quantity.
- In the Sale Types group box, clear the Inv Adjustments
check box to exclude physical inventory movement (which reveals nothing
about the popularity of sold items) and select the Non Inv Adjustments check
box to make sure regular sales are included.
- Click View or Print. The
following report is for Department 11 items in Totals
Only view sorted by quantity:
- The Qty column circled in the above illustration shows, from
top to bottom, slower to faster moving items.
